Graduate Student Research Opportunity:

We invite applications from prospective students interested in joining a project examining the effect of climate variability on sedimentological processes along the Pacific Northwest continental margin. We have funding to support either a Masters or Ph.D. student. The project will be jointly supervised by professors P. Wiberg and M. Mann, and may involve the development of an appropriate atmospheric dataset representative of storm frequency and intensity in the Pacific Northwest, the use of this dataset in driving theoretical models of margin sedimentation, the establishment of a relationship between local storminess statistics and indices of long-term climate variability, and the potential extension of these climate indices using paleoclimate "proxy" climate data.

This graduate research opportunity is available within the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia. For more details, contact Professor Michael E. Mann or Professor Patricia Wiberg
